Have you experienced Trauma?

Trauma can be defined in many ways, but usually involves having a strong emotional response to being part of or witnessing a terrible event. A person often feels strong reactions and the emotions can be unpredictable. Trauma can lead to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), strained relationships, shock, denial, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, stress, isolation, headaches, nausea, insomnia, anger, substance abuse, eating disorders, substance abuse, and even suicide.

Some Examples of Trauma Include:

  • Child physical abuse

  • Child Sexual abuse

  • Childhood Neglect

  • Car Accident

  • Major Injury

  • Finding out you have a terminal illness

  • Witnessing a tragic event

  • Intense Bullying

  • School Shootings

  • Rape

  • Domestic Violence

  • Natural Disaster

  • Losing a loved one

  • Infertility

  • Failed Adoption

  • Complications giving birth

People who have endured trauma often suffer alone, believing that they should be able to “just get over it.” This could not be further from the truth. People cannot just get over trauma.

All the therapists at Dr. Cynthia Edwards-Hawver and Associates have undergone intensive trauma training and are able to help you. We know it can be difficult to come forward but please know we are respectful of what has happened to you, we will not judge, we will remain empathetic, and we will work collaboratively to meet you were you are at in terms of your recovery.
